Work Responsibilities and Projects:
Media
 Draft basic public relations materials including, news releases, media alerts, fact
 sheets, appeal letters, and other materials as directed
 Meet with faculty to discuss and develop proactive pitching ideas
 Create reports on media coverage
 Send newsworthy items to appropriate Moffitt physicians, researchers, administrators and staff
 Coordinate logistics for video and photo shoots
 Compile and update media contact databases

Publications
 Research and draft articles for Moffitt publications
 Develop social media content to promote Moffitt publications

Digital Media
 Update MOFFITT.org website
 Monitor and engage in Moffitt’s social media outlets (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, Google+, Pinterest)
 Assist with video shoots

Community Relations
 Assist with the promotion of community relations outreach and events
 Support the development and execution of community relations events

USF Athletics seeks communication intern

Athletic Communications Intern, University of South Florida

The University of South Florida Department of Athletics Communications is hiring undergraduate students for internships for class credit and work study positions. Athletic communications is an exciting industry where students will have the opportunity to learn public relations and media relations skills in the sporting industry from industry professionals.

Job Duties

At sporting events:

  • Attend sporting events such as football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, baseball, softball games and tennis matches and perform communications duties in the working press box or press area.
  • Media relations at sporting events including but not limited to running stats at sporting events, setting up press box, distributing statistical information and game notes, assisting media with minor requests
  • Statistical help including but not limited to spotting and inputting game plays and details
  • Content creation for social media including but not limited to taking photos and posting to USF Athletics social media accounts. This usually is an activity students enjoy and consider a privilege.

In the office:

  • Write press releases or assist with press releases about sporting events, news related to sporting teams, events, ticket sales, or other information regarding the athletic department.
  • Assist with media guides, this includes placing photos, writing copy, laying out text and photos for publication.
  • Graphic design work including creating game day programs, social media graphics, social media design and ideas, etc.
  • Create basic documents such as rosters, schedules, student athlete bios, game programs, etc.

Additional:

Communications is a broad field, and depending on the student’s interests and talents, additional duties may be decided on between the student and the supervisor. For example, if a student had a special interest in photography, videography, graphic design, social media strategy or traditional public relations, the student may be presented opportunities to work in these capacities. Other duties as assigned.

While these duties may seem basic in nature, the industry of college athletics is fast paced with many deadlines, and many people are required to execute the production of sporting events at a high level, and create fun and enjoyable learning environments for students interested in pursuing a profession in college athletics. Students may also enjoy meals at sporting events where a meal is provided, and necessary USF apparel congruent with working events.
