An internship at the Orlando Sentinel will take you into the heart of the ultimate journalism class: a digital newsroom in one of America’s newsiest metropolitan areas.
The Sentinel will offer paid internships during 2019 in news, entertainment or sports reporting, video and still photography and multimedia production.
Candidates must have completed basic college journalism/communication courses. Professional experience through a previous internship or freelance work is strongly preferred, though students whose experience is limited to campus media also will be considered.
Although interns generally are current college students, we will consider recent college graduates.
Anyone interning as a reporter or photographer must have the use of a car (the Sentinel will reimburse for mileage, tolls and parking), and photographers must have their own equipment. Interns are responsible for finding their own housing.
Students selected will work full time for 10 weeks. Part-time internships of 20 hours will be considered, especially for spring and fall.
Applications for the spring 2019 semester are due Oct. 15 and successful candidates will be notified by Nov. 15. Summer 2019 internship applications are due March 1 and successful candidates will be notified by March 31. Fall 2019 applications are due by Aug. 1 and candidates will be notified by Aug. 15.
(Sorry, because of the volume of applications, we can only notify the interns we select.)
To apply, please assemble a packet that includes:
- A short letter — no more than 250 words — describing your background, career goals and internship objectives. (Not enough space to dazzle us? Remember, omit needless words.)
- A resume with journalism-related references.
- At least seven clips. Photography and multimedia candidates should submit a CD or DVD, viewable on both Mac and PC, containing single pictures, videos, a photo story or multimedia.
We will do phone interviews, but will invite candidates in Florida or visiting here to come for in-person interview.
