American Red Cross seeks communications intern

Overview: An exciting opportunity exists to work with leadership staff
and volunteers of the American Red Cross of Central
Florida to support all aspects of communications, public
affairs and marketing across the region.

Reports to Regional Communications Director
Primary Location: Tampa Bay Chapter Office

Position Description
Key Responsibilities: The role of communications in the Red Cross is to share
information, tell stories, preserve and protect the brand’s
reputation, and engage in conversations that inspire
Key areas of support for this position include, but are not
limited to:
1. Writing for a number of platforms and outlets
following AP style and ARC brand standards.
2. Visual storytelling through the production of
compelling photos and/or videos.
3. Support for social channels including monitoring,
posting and replying to inquiries.
4. Assist with disaster public affairs as assigned.
Time Commitment 8-10 hours per week preferred. Flexible.
Qualifications The communications internship is an unpaid,
developmental experience where candidates must be
enrolled in a degree program at the time of the internship.
Candidate should be a junior, senior or graduate student at
the time of application with a major of communications,
public relations or similar field.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and social media
platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Flickr, Vimeo).
Experience in design applications preferred but not
Qualifications (cont’d): Strong written and verbal communications skills.

Good organizational ability and inter-personal skills.
Desire to contribute to the humanitarian mission of our
nonprofit organization and give back to the community
through service.
Training Overview of the Red Cross with Volunteer Services and
introduction to Red Cross Communications and on-the-job
training from supervisor. Interactive online courses
available to all volunteers in the areas of public affairs,
social media, marketing and disaster communications.
Length of Internship 12-14 weeks preferred. Any semester. Opportunity may be
