Griffin Communications Group seeks intern

Job Summary

The Intern is responsible for assisting account team members in executing creative marketing communications programs for agency clients, as well as providing back-up administrative support.

Reports to: Account Executive or Account Manager

 Job Responsibilities, Accountabilities, Duties

  • Provides assistance in executing assigned client communication campaigns. Tasks include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • Drafting/distributing press materials, including news releases, calendar listings and media alerts
    • Compiling/qualifying media lists
    • Handling distribution of relevant materials to traditional and social media outlets as assigned
    • Collecting/copying/scanning publicity clips; assessing media value
    • Performing research; presenting findings
    • Coordinating event logistics; assisting with on-site execution
    • Other tasks as assigned by account manager
  • Participates in administrative functions of the company, as shared by all personnel, including:
    • Greets visitors and answers phone; delivers timely messages to staff via phone and/or e-mail
    • Processes incoming mail and coordinates shipping needs; gets/distributes mail
    • Scans/faxes documents as requested by staff
    • Maintains conference room schedule and ensures the room is kept ready for client meetings
    • Coordinates logistics for all meetings and presentations including seating, audio-visual aids
    • Keeps office, including production room and kitchens, organized and tidy at all times
    • Maintains and organizes all office supplies, paper goods, toners and kitchen supplies
    • Checks inventory weekly and places orders or purchases as needed
    • Works with Executive Assistant to stay within budget parameters
    • Works with Executive Assistant to assure all filing systems are up to date and consistently organized for agency efficiency and utilization by archiving files, etc.

 

Measured Levels of Success

Success in the Intern position will be measured by the following benchmarks:

  • Performs thorough and relevant research
  • Produces quality work without grammatical errors
  • Actively meets set deadlines for all tasks
  • Handles challenges in a timely and professional manner
  • Lack of complaints from staff
  • Produces quality work and adheres to the agency’s standards of excellence

These benchmarks will be evaluated by the assigned Account Executive and/or Account Manager.

 Qualifications

  • Education/Experience – Either bachelor’s degree in public relations or communications or candidate is in final 1-2 years of undergraduate studies in either of these fields; candidate must have work portfolio (i.e. writing samples, school marketing campaigns, etc.)
  • Skills
    • Computer – Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
    • Communications – general knowledge of basic communications tools used to support marketing communications and branding campaigns (i.e. media relations, advertising, collateral, events, Internet, grass-roots, etc.); general knowledge of social media outlets; writing, particularly AP Style
  • Capabilities – multi-tasking, performing under tight deadlines, attention to detail, organized, excellent writing skills, can do attitude, asks questions and takes direction/constructive criticism
  • Personality Traits – persistent, optimistic, service-oriented, can-do attitude, initiative, honest, responsible

 

Other

  • Internship lasts for at least one school semester (May-August); longer internships will be considered
  • Hours range from 15-30 hours per week (exact schedule to be determined)
  • Works in Griffin Communications Group offices
